Stuck on making a decision? Read our guide on how to choose a pair of comfortable walking sandals.
1. FitFlop Walkstar III Walking Sandals
The FitFlop Walkstar III walking sandals can be described as a cross between flip-flops and sandals. They’re attributed as being the style that was responsible for the widely popularity of FitFlop sandals. Its minimalistic and sporty style design combines functionality with fashion.
These sandals don’t have a heel strap so it’s easy to slide them on and off, and the leather upper strap is long and padded enough to secure your feet in place and provide comfort at the same time.
FitFlop’s own biomechanically engineered EVA Microwobbleboard midsole does an excellent job at absorbing pressure. Adding to that, its heel is 4cm thick and helps to take much of the impact when walking, which takes a lot of strain off your feet as a result.
If you’re going to be doing a lot of walking on mostly flat terrain, and you want a pair of sandals that are very simplistic yet attractive, then the FitFlop Walkstar III would be a logical choice.
2. Birkenstock Milano
Here’s another minimalistic pair of high quality and fashionable walking sandals. The German made sandals are produced by Birkenstock who has gone to the lengths of producing a wide variety of colours for their unisex Milano range.
Leather or Birko-Flor (an alternative to leather) is used for the upper and suede is used for the lining to give you that smooth comfortable texture. There are three adjustable buckles to secure your feet in place.
The contoured midsole consists of a cork latex core with a suede lining and the outsole is made from EVA rubber. Combining these materials gives you an effective cushioning upon impact. The Birkenstock Milano’s are ideal for light to medium walking on even terrain surfaces.
3. Crocs Cleo III
If you’re looking for a pair of women’s walking sandals that are affordable, fashionable and super comfortable, then you’ll be hard pressed to find something that’s more ideal than the Crocs Cleo III.
These slim sandals only have a heel height of just 1.98cm so it’s lightweight and designed for low impact walking.
That means hiking up mountains and crossing rocky rivers is out the question. However, they’re perfect for walking for miles and miles through urban areas or beaches where the terrain is mostly flat.
The Crocs Cleo III’s are constructed nearly entirely of Croslite which is a form of rubber, and they’re double cushioned with a footbed profile that conforms to a woman’s feet. This is why they’re so easy to walk in and are hardly noticeable on your feet.
4. Merrell Kahuna III
Featured on both our list of men and women’s walking sandals is the Merrell Kahuna III. If you know that your feet are going to undergo some serious adventures, then I would highly recommend going with these sandals rather than the others on our list, which are all good but the Kahuna III’s are specifically designed for action.
Its durable pig suede upper and Lycra ® neoprene padded lining ensures comfort while the added Aegis® antimicrobial solution ensures that the sandals won’t smell bad after a long day walking in them.
Its sole is produced by renowned sole maker Vibram, and they’ve made a sole that is able to handle all sorts of strenuous activity. The heel is air cushioned to effectively absorb shock while the deep patterned TC5+ outsole provides tight grip to whatever surface.
If you are going to be having an adventurous, high activity holiday, then do yourself a favour and don’t skimp on safety by making sure you get a decent pair of sandals fit for purpose such as the Merrell Kahuna III.
5. Dunlop Flat Open Toe Walking Sandals
The most affordable walking sandals on our list is the Dunlop Flat Open Toes which are ideal for light to medium walking over flat terrain. Though they’re also suitable for multi-terrain surfaces, they’re not as durable as other higher quality multi-terrain walking sandals such as the Merrell Kahuna III.
The upper features two Velcro fastenings (certain models have an extra Velcro closure at the heel) and light padding on the lining. The heel height is measured at only 2cm which makes them lightweight but also not able to absorb much pressure.
Even though the use of materials and design aren’t as high quality as the other sandals on our list, the Dunlop Flat Open Toe Walking Sandals are still a great money saving option for your travels given its low price point.
